Celebration of 99th International Women's Day

“99th International Women's Day” with an objective to celebrate this, Tewa along with Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FWEAN), Association of St. Mary's Alumni Nepal (ASMAN) and SAARC Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) organized 3 days Mega Event that started from 7th March 2009. The event included exhibition on handicraft, agro, other textile, ethnic food stalls representing different countries. The workshop and talk program on new innovative agro based issues to share cooperative farming through organic methodology was the other attraction of the event.

The program's objective was to focus on women's collective strength and ingenuity in the south Asian region especially the SAARC nations. The event objectives was also to lobby and advocate for women’s right in terms of saying no to war, impurity and asking for equitable representative participation at all levels of the states. Participants comprised of activists, professionals and entrepreneurs from SAARC member countries, NGOs and civil society leaders across sectors and countries were present during the events. The event was also an opportunity for women from all the eight countries to come together in unity to celebrate past achievements. We believe, the event provided a platform for regional networking and solidarity on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.

8th March 2009, International Women’s day, with the message of solidarity and celebration of Women’s achievements, Tewa organized Walk-a-thon one of the main fundraising event; where there were almost 2000 participants including various people from different organizations, corporate sectors, diplomats and international donors. Tewa with its initiatives was able to give exposures to some grantee organizations to participate in the various activities of the event like Trade fair for intra-regional trading, intra regional development, exchange information, build trade links and networking among the South Asian women from SAARC region.

This event was a strong platform for women network to share their experiences and exchange best practices. The event enabled Tewa for the visibility beyond Nepal especially in the South Asian Region to spread its message of philanthropy for equitable justice and peace. We also had the honor to have Dr. Masuda Jalal who had come all the way from Afghanistan to be part of the event.
