Grant-Making Programme

Tewa’s grant-making programme supports mostly rural, grassroots women’s groups in Nepal, with three grant cycles per year. These grants empower women by supporting them and helping them to remain organized and allowing them to fulfill their goals. Tewa grants primarily provide support for income generating activities, as resources for rural women are scarce. Grants have also supported skill development training, physical structures, and human resource development. Since 2004, 20% of the annual grant-making budget has been designated for peace building initiatives. To date, 214 grants have been disbursed in 53 districts (out of 75 districts).
Quick facts: (May 2006)
Number of Grants Disbursed: 214
Total Amount Disbursed: Rs 9,448,528 (approx US$ 133,078)
Tewa grants are a maximum of Rs 50,000 (approx US$ 700) and are disbursed in 3 cycles annually (January, May and September). Discretionary grants for urgent needs are also available and are a maximum of Rs 100,000;(approx US$ 1400). On average, grants range from Rs 30,000-40,000. After submitting a proposal, grant requests are reviewed by the grant-making programme officer, followed by the staff of Tewa and an external grant making committee. Final decisions on grants are made by the Tewa Execuitve Board.
