Tewa Land and Building Development Project

In 2001, the Tewa team decided to invest the Tewa endowment by purchasing and developing 2 acres (16 ropanis) of land in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur. This project is overseen by the Tewa Land and Building Development Committee (TLBDC), which includes board members, general members, staff, volunteers and donors.

The Tewa complex is envisioned as an esthetically pleasing space that will integrate the environment, development and culture. It is to be used and enjoyed not only by Tewa, but also the larger community.  There will be facilities available to enjoy arts & crafts, musical and theatrical performances and engage in educational and entrepreneurial activities. In addition, the complex will provide a place of respite for anyone seeking solitude and quiet as it will be open to anyone wishing to walk the premises and enjoy the facilities. 

In creating this complex, Tewa aims to further arouse the soul, stimulate the intellect and heal the heart. As revenue will be gathered from the rental spaces and activities, the Tewa complex also aims to reinforce Tewa’s philosophy by providing a model for self reliant and sustainable development. The goal is that these revenues will be sufficient to support the operational costs of the organization so that Tewa can continue to promote philanthropy for equitable justice and peace for many years to come.

Phase 1: Tewa Shops & Tewa Office Building (completed 2004)
Phase 2: Tewa Cafeteria and Art Gallery, Community Hall, Open Air Theatre and Children’s Play Area (in progress 2005-2006)
Phase 3: Dormitory Building, Recreation Centre, Research and Learning Centre for Philanthropy & Women’s Work (future plans)
